Love and marriage may be universal, but their mutual inclusivity is not. What can a wedding photograph tell us about the love shared between two people? How can portraiture better inform us about the experience of being in love?
Love and Marriage is an invitation to explore the myriad ways romantic partnerships are defined, expressed, and felt. Drawing together works from photographic archives and art collections, we are asked to consider the differences that exist between cultural norms and lived experiences, testing our assumptions about what defines love in New Zealand.
