Become A Friend

The Friends of the Portrait Gallery, formed in April 1995, are supporters, active contributors, and people interested in participating in the growth of a national arts institution.

Benefits of becoming a Friend include

  • Providing tangible support for the New Zealand Portrait Gallery
  • Invitations to exhibition openings
  • Advance notice of Gallery events and programmes
  • Floor-talks and lectures held in conjuction with an exhibition or visits by international experts
  • The opportunity to attend Friends' tours to local artists' studios
  • Regional trips and overseas tours to other Portrait Galleries and art collections of interest

Friends receive newsletters and invitations to all our functions, exhibitions, opening nights and regular lectures or events held in conjunction with an exhibition. This includes access to lectures from international visitors such as directors of National Portrait Galleries or judges of the biennial Adam Portraiture Award among others.
