Authors of Aotearoa focuses on the people who have shaped our country’s literary scene. By profiling those who have written novels, short stories, essays, plays, poems and feature films, we can recognise the people who are responsible for some of our nation's best literature and uncover a few lesser known but equally gifted writers.
This exhibition presents portraits from the collection of the New Zealand Portrait Gallery Te Pūkenga Whakaata, alongside artworks from other galleries and museums, and acknowledges the impact that authors have had in the development of Aotearoa. It also asks us to think critically about those who have crafted the narratives we revere and how they came to be.
