Make a bequest

A bequest is a meaningful way to leave a legacy and support the Gallery's future.

As a registered charity with minimal government funding, we rely heavily on the support of individuals and organisations.

You can help to ensure the Gallery remains vibrant, enjoyable and inspiring for future generations by leaving a bequest in your will.

How to include the Gallery in your will

You may leave the Gallery:

  • a specific dollar amount;

  • a percentage of your residuary estate (the amount remaining after all other expenses and gifts are paid); or

  • specific assets such as property, shares or artwork. (Please contact us first to confirm that we can accept the items you are considering.)

We encourage bequests to support the Gallery's general purposes, to be used where most needed. We also welcome bequests for specific purposes, and we can work with you to ensure your plans achieve your goals for supporting the Gallery.

We recommend the following wording:

I give and bequest to the Trustees of the New Zealand Portrait Gallery Trust, registered charity CC21606,

  • an amount of $________ or

  • ___% of my residuary estate or

  • specific assets as specified: _________________

to be used where most needed to support the general purposes and work of the New Zealand Portrait Gallery.

Please get in touch! If you are considering a bequest, we welcome a confidential discussion with you and your advisors about your plans. If you have already included the Gallery in your will, we would appreciate knowing about it so that we can thank you for your generosity and keep you up to date with the Gallery and its work.
