On the last weekend of the exhibition Selwyn Muru: A Life’s Work, Te Pūkenga Whakaata The New Zealand Portrait Gallery hosts a seminar in the gallery to be lead by curator Dr Moana Nepia with presentations from guests Emeritus Professor Ngāhuia Te Awekotuku, artist Dr Brett Graham, Curator Taonga Māori at MTG Gallery Napier Te Hira Henderson, and former Governor General Sir Anand Satyanand.
Reflecting on their friendships and work with him, together they will share insights into Muru’s legacy of contributions as a social commentator, an advocate for social justice in local and international contexts, his pioneering leadership in multiple fields including the visual arts, education, broadcasting and film, and his status as one of the most original Māori thinkers of his generation. The audience will be invited to join discussion with them following the presentations.
This event is sponsored by Media Design School Auckland and Creative New Zealand.
